Juliet Barber relives the occasion of last year’s Ladies Banquet, as members and partners followed in the footsteps of a famous Master.
Mounting the stairs of the Clothworkers’ Hall, members and their guests attending the Ladies Banquet followed in the footsteps of the acclaimed diarist and former Master, Samuel Pepys.
“The hall is absolutely stunning and it was such a lovely occasion, I felt privileged to be part of it,” says Juliet Barber, recalling the event in November last year.
As partner of committee member Sean Canty, Juliet has attended several WCEC events over the last three years.
In such surroundings, it’s hard not to appreciate the historical value of the Liveries and WCEC, but Juliet also stresses the Company’s social function.
“It’s not an old boys’ club. The Worshipful Company is for everybody – women and families as well. And we made the most of that opportunity.”
Juliet and Sean were accompanied by their son and daughter, respectively, both in their twenties. “All our children are proud of Sean being a liveryman and member of the Worshipful Company,” she says.
The party was completed by Juliet’s parents, and all thoroughly enjoyed the occasion, from the champagne reception to the amusing after-dinner speaker.
Juliet and Sean, both directors of CAM Specialist Support, also have two younger daughters, who enviously watched their siblings leave all dressed up for the banquet. But, says Juliet: “Their time will come.”
