Spring was in the air along with the buzz of a vibrant and positive industry at The Cleaning Show in March.

Exhibitors and visitors took to the new venue, the ExCel Exhibition Centre in East London, with a palpable sense of business confidence and expectation about the future of our sector.

With more than 5,500 visitors over the three days, the show was judged a huge success not just in terms of numbers but also the quality of the exhibition stands and the interest from existing and prospective clients.

The Show’s seminars and presentations were of a similarly professional standard. We in the Worshipful Company were pleased to see the attention focussed on the on-going evolution of our industry. This was reflected, for example, in Show sponsor Mitie’s presentation on changing service models and the widening skill sets of cleaners.

Our WCEC stand also attracted considerable interest and we spoke with many existing and potential members. The benefits of membership, and the message emblazoned on our banner – Your industry, your livery company – We talk your language – seemed to resonate with visitors.

To underline the point, the WCEC stand also prominently displayed comments from our members:

  • “What other organisation could give you the opportunity to forge relationships with the most dedicated and skilled professionals from almost every avenue in the world of commercial cleaning?” – Chris Luxton, Honorary Court Assistant.
  • “If someone is serious about their career, but also likes to have fun and be sociable, then the WCEC will be a good setting.”- Elijah Howell, Liveryman.

These are the messages that we aim to get across as we grow our membership and contribute to the development of a healthy and dynamic cleaning industry in the UK.
