Speed Read (10 February)

Thanks to those who joined us for the Court Luncheon this week – you helped make it a great event.

If you are a member of the Environmental Cleaners and did not receive a copy of Speed Read by email, please check you spam folder in case it has been caught in that. If not, please email Alistair Moses.

A clean sweep

The Environmental Cleaners has once again supported the ‘Sweeper of the Year’ category at the City of London Corporation – Clean City Awards.

The Master Mr Philip Morrish and Clerk Mrs Maureen Marden attended the awards ceremony and luncheon at the end of January to represent the company.

The Master presented certificates and prizes to the winner David Vernon and runner-up Larry Chesson (pictured with The Master).

Picture this

By May 2016 it was estimated that 81% of the UK population had a smart phone. We know that still leaves some of you out, but it would be great if the rest could use their phone cameras to capture livery activities to help us record and demonstrate the breadth of events you get involved in.

So whether you’re heading for the start line at the inter-livery golf karting, looking down the fairway on a livery golf day or on your way to one of our luncheons or dinners (NB there are restrictions on photography inside many livery halls so please comply with those), why not take a quick snap and send it to Alistair Moses? The images will be shared on the Environmental Cleaners’ Instagram account.

STEM studentsA helping hand

The Worshipful Company of Coachmakers, in conjunction with Jaguar Land Rover, has a valuable series of scholarships for young women studying STEM subjects at A Level and who intend to go to university to read Engineering or Science.

The scholarships are worth £3,000 per year over three or four years (depending on the course).

The more applications received the better; so if you know any young women studying these A Level subjects, please pass on the details of the Scholarship: Application form and Further information.

Ravenscroft lecture at the home of the eagle

The Master Glass Seller, Peter Rawlinson, warmly extends an invitation to attend The Ravenscroft Lecture 2017 – Transforming Barclays: The Glass Bridge.

Delivered by Steven Roberts, Innovation Director, Barclays and colleagues, attendees will discover how Barclays is working with communities to enable them to benefit from this transformation.

As well as hearing about the development of the Digital Eagles programme we’ll learn how Barclays is setting up apprenticeships for both young and old. As many of you will be aware apprenticeships are high on the Lord Mayor’s agenda this year.

The event takes place on Wednesday 1 March 6:30pm – 9:00 at Barclays Atrium, Level 30, Canary Wharf. If you are interested in attending, please contact the Clerk.
