lord-mayors-show-2016New Lord Mayor elected

Alderman Dr Andrew Parmley was elected as the Lord Mayor of London for 2016/2017 at a packed Guildhall on 29 September (Michaelmass Day).

Alderman Parmley is an Honorary Freeman of the Environmental Cleaners and a member of several other Livery Companies.

He will take office on Friday 11 November and The Lord Mayor’s Show then takes place on Saturday 12 November.

We know many of you attend the free annual event which attracts thousands of people into the City each year, all revelling in the excitement, splendour and history that this special event evokes.

It’s a great day out for the whole family.

Echoes Across the Century

The Environmental Cleaners is one of a growing number of Livery Companies who are supporting Livery Schools Link in their work with schools across London.

One such project is a World War One commemoration project. It engages students from schools across London with the heritage of the trades and industries working behind the scenes in 1914-18.

The students’ work will culminate in a major exhibition in the Guildhall Art Gallery between April and July 2017. For more information see the Bringing history to life story on our website.

paviorsPaving the way to a better future

Two years ago the Worshipful Company of Paviors, in conjunction with FM Conway, launched London Highways Academy of Excellence, (LHAE). The idea is to help disadvantaged youngsters from London to find employment as apprentices within the construction industry.

The LHAE runs two-week courses which provide the attendees with basic training. LHAE also matches participants with employers. In order to expand and develop this initiative it needs to secure more employers who are willing to give students a chance.

If you know anybody who can help please contact either Tom Barton or John Freestone.
