i-RECOGNISE aims to give cleaners the thanks they deserve

Friday the 20th September 2019 marks the first Worldwide
‘i-Recognise’ day.

This day of recognition is to acknowledge cleaning operatives across the globe who deliver an invaluable and essential service for us all. 

The sole purpose of this day is to raise the profile of the cleaning sector and to show that you personally ‘Recognise’ (Respect Every Cleaning Operative Giving Necessary Importance to Services and Environments) the work they carry out.

Serving Psigma Inter Livery Tennis 

The Psigma Inter Livery Real Tennis Competition will take place at the Queen’s Club on Tuesday 29 October 2019.

Keeping up to date with Brigantes

The 2019 Brigantes Breakfast, held on 25 July in the spectacular surroundings of the Whitworth Hall, University of Manchester, was attended by a capacity 300 Liverymen and guests, with 81 Companies represented and 28 current Livery Masters processing. Past Sheriff Adrian Waddingham CBE was in the Chair.

The event was attended by: 

  • Rt Hon Alderman Peter Estlin, our Lord Mayor, accompanied by Sheriff Alderman Vincent Keavney and Sheriff the Hon Elizabeth Green
  • Mr Warren Smith, the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, who gave the opening address to which the Lord Mayor responded
  • Rt Rev Mark Ashcroft, the Bishop of Bolton, who was the Brigantes Chaplain for the Day and said Grace
  • Professor Luke Georghiou, Deputy President, The University of Manchester
  • Ms Esme Ward, Director, The Museum of Manchester
  • Mr David Barstow, Governor of the Company of Merchant Adventurers of York

The occasion commenced at 10.30 in the adjoining Museum of Manchester with the now traditional Brigantes Lecture, presented this year by the Museum Director, before moving on to the Reception and Lunch in the Banqueting Hall. The Toast to the Guests and the Response were delivered with much humour and jesting by Alderman Sir David Wootton and Alderman Dr Sir Andrew Parmley respectively, as Brigantes tribal elders for east and west of the Pennines.

Dr Sir Andrew Parmley reacquainted himself with the Hall’s fine organ which he had played many times while a student in the City, and was our Organist for the Day.  E (Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry) Squadron of the Royal Yeomanry provided the Lance Guard.

Bring on the Military Awards

We are fast approaching a highlight of our year, the Military Awards Ceremony and Luncheon on Tuesday 17th September.   We will celebrate and acknowledge the excellence of the men and women of our armed forces, and enjoy convivial company and good food in the wonderful surroundings of The Ironmongers Hall.   The Master and Wardens hope you will join them in this special event.   You can download an application from below and the event is also available for booking on the Company Website on the events Calendar, on the tab “Military Awards and Luncheon”. The ticket price has been held at the same level as last year.   The reception for the Awards is at 11.30.   The reception for the luncheon is at 13.00   The Luncheon begins at 13.30.   We look forward to seeing all members and their guests there.

They are looking for expert cleaners, de-clutterers, psychologists and scientists to form a team of experts to help those in need for a new TV show.
